Do you found the PS3 a little bit expensive?

You will be happy (or not) to know that Sony lost money when they are selling the PS3.
But, they start to lose less… The company could maybe reach same cost and sell price during next year.

iSuppli said that a system sold for 399.99$ in store, now cost 448,73$ to produce. So, Sony lose around 50$ by sold system. That’s pretty good if we compare to 2006, where the construction of a new PS3 was 805$ and 840$ and the sell price was 499$ and 599$, depend on model.

So why the cost fell so much? According to iSuppli, the new PS3 have less pieces than the older model. In 2006, the PS3 was made from 4048 pieces and now, just 2820.

Note that the best selling console on the market right now is the Wii, follow by the XBox360 and finally the PS3.

The story doesn’t talk about Microsoft or Nintendo details for the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
